Richmond Hill's martial arts academy since 2006

The Martial Arts Training Centre has served Richmond Hill families since 2006 from 166 Newkirk Rd. Founded by Jack Bateman, TMATC was built as a full martial arts academy where students can train seriously without feeling lost on day one. The facility brings multiple disciplines under one roof, giving kids, teens, and adults a clear place to build skill, confidence, and fitness close to home.

Students come from across Richmond Hill and York Region for classes that balance structure with encouragement. Whether someone is trying martial arts for the first time or returning after years away, the goal is the same: help each student train consistently, learn safely, and keep improving.

Programs for every age and goal

TMATC offers martial arts programs for kids starting at age 4, teens, adults, competitive students, and recreational students. Some families are looking for confidence, discipline, and focus; others want practical self-defence, better conditioning, or a long-term sport. The schedule includes options for beginners and experienced students, so each person can start at the right level.

Meet our instructors

TMATC was founded by Jack Bateman, who built the academy around structured coaching, practical martial arts, and steady student progress. His coaching philosophy is simple: meet students where they are, give them clear instruction, and help them build confidence through consistent training.

The instructional team includes coaches with experience across multiple martial arts disciplines and with students of different ages and skill levels. Classes are designed to be approachable for beginners while still giving committed students a path to keep improving. Parents can ask questions, meet the team, and see how the coaching style feels during a free trial class.
